This is one of those de-li-ci-ous weddings! A wedding in Andalusia, Spain, at La Hacienda de San Rafael. A traditional space, a beautiful, peaceful and serene, a place where it’s hard to feel stress. Even if it’s your wedding morning.
Our ceremony took place at the local church, which is absolutely stunning and we had the local choir sing traditional, flamenco style songs which really added to the atmosphere. Back at the Hacienda we again tried to keep the drinks reception feeling as authentically Spanish as possible so we had a flamenco guitarist, a whole jamon which was sliced by a cortador and served to guests along with delicious tapas style canapes.
The wedding was undoubtedly Spanish! Andalusia at its best! The music continued and the first dance of the couple was accompanied by the voice of a friend which made this moment “lovely and with a very personal touch.”
The photographer was a difficult choice, as opposed to the choice of the band! They wanted someone to tell the story of this day in a natural and beautiful way. But the search ended when they found Pablo!
From our first skype chat with him, we knew he would deliver exactly what we wanted and he didn’t let us down! His pictures really capture how much fun everybody had on the day as well as taking in all the little details and moments we may have missed.
As in Seville summer days can become very hot, the favours were very well thought! The couple decided to make custom fans for each of the guests!
In the church, when we looked out at our guests, all we could see was a wave of fans so we know they were appreciated!
Romana’s family are from Ukraine, Italy and Austria so it was important to have some of their traditions incorporated into the wedding day. The guests were given an explanation of these at dinner so they could familiarise themselves with everything we were putting them through!
One of the most fun and memorable traditions was the ‘peripey’, a Ukrainian tradition where every guest is invited to personally congratulate the Bride and Groom. The couple, their parents, bridesmaids and ushers stand behind the top table and greet everyone individually. Guests offer their best wishes to Bride and Groom and toast their future happiness with a shot of flavoured vodka. Some of the pictures we have of that are priceless. We even had some guests coming back for seconds. Needless to say, they were catching the early coach back at 2am!! When it came to 4am and time for guests to leave, we had a ‘churros and chocolate’ van on hand to give them a sweet treat to help them stay awake on the journey back.
No doubt an unforgettable day for the bride and groom and the guests who traveled to Andalusia for the wedding of Roman and James!
